Summary: A major challenge for clinical trials in Oncology is the underrepresentation of older patients with cancer in study cohorts. This well-recognized issue jeopardizes the external validity of clinial trials
and the generalizability of study results to older patients with cancer. As a result, extrapolation of study results from younger patient populations is a common approach to inform healthcare community on how older patients with cancer will be managed and treated.
This approach increases the risk for over- or under-treatment of older patients. In this deliverable, we initially state the background of this issue based on current evidence about challenges in designing and conducting clinical trials for older cancer patients, we investigate the specific strategies that have been used to mitigate these challenges, and we explore how IMPORTANT trial was designed as a dedicated clinical trial for older patients with breast cancer.

Summary: This deliverable is the main outcome of T2.2 “IMPORTANT technical requirements for a decentralized clinical trial”, which focus on defining the functional and non-functional requirements for a DCT from a technical perspective. Specifically, it introduces the Decentralized Clinical Trials concept and it identifies IMPORTANT clinical sites technical specificities like systems, assets and procedures in place and addresses any limitation that may affect actions of WP3 and WP4.

This website was created to present the project and any other relevant information, such as the partners involved in the project, the objectives of the project, the challenges and the impact for the implementation of the project. It will also provide ongoing information on project activities such as events, meetings, etc. and disseminate the public deliverables of the project, relevant publications, and presentations.

Summary: This Cluster “Diagnosis and Treatment”, representing a fundamental component of the Mission on Cancer, strategically connects projects funded under the Horizon Europe Funding Programme. Functioning as a collaborative hub, it will amplify the impact of individual projects by promoting synergy among consortia. Doing this, this Cluster will work to maximise the value of research investments through shared best practices, fostering collective learning, and accelerating progress in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Summary:The annual cluster meeting took place on the 12 Sept. 2024 at Vall d’Hebron, Barcelona, Spain. 45 participants representing the 12 funded projects attended physically to the meeting and Marianne Da Silva (HADEA). Additional participants joined remotely. This Deliverable presents the first conclusions out of it.

Summary: The Diagnosis and Treatment Cluster is composed of 12 projects revolving around Pragmatic Clinical Trials participating in the EU Cancer Mission program. There is a real stake in these projects to identify what are the challenges faced by these research programs as well as what is innovation. This deliverable introduces the first policy brief formulating recommendations based on the research and innovation stand of the cluster.
